Treasures of Sadness is a real life account of a woman’s journey that began during World War II. Cornelia Dykhorst grew up in an affluent neighborhood in Amersfoort, Holland in the 1940’s. From there she fell in love with a German soldier, rubbed elbows with royalty in Vienna, Austria and ended up in a coal mining town of West Virginia. There, she gave birth to one son and eventually ended up alone in the housing projects of Tennessee. From her journey she was able to take away some of life’s treasures. Treasures of Sadness is the story of her unbroken spirit.

Treasures of Sadness is a firsthand account of Cornelia Dykhorst (AKA: Corrie Smith), the War and the love that she found. Corrie died in 2003. She has one son, B. R. Smith, and two grandchildren, Chad and Kelli,  who all reside in Tennessee. It was her son’s dream to publish his mother’s memoir. It was the gift that she gave him of her past
